වප් පෝ දිනය ශ්‍රී ලාංකික බෞද්ධයන් හට වැදගත් වන්නේ කඨින චීවර පූජාව සිදුවන පොහොය ලෙසය. අදින් උදාවන වප් පෝ දිනයෙන් පසු මෙරට විහාරස්‌ථානවල කඨින පිංකම් පැවැත්වේ. වසරකට වරක්‌ පමණක්‌ සිදුවන මෙම උතුම් පුණ්‍ය කර්මය උසස්‌ කුසලයන් සිදුකරගත හැකි අවස්‌ථාවකි.
වස්‌ පවාරණය කළ භික්‌ෂුන් වහන්සේ නමක්‌ සිටිය යුතු වීම, කඨින චීවරය දායකයන් විසින් සංඝයා වහන්සේට පූජා කර සංඝයා වහන්සේ විසින් සුදුසු භික්‌ෂුවකට දියයුතු වීම සහ එතැන්හිදීම කපාකොට මසා සකස්‌ කර ගත යුතු වීම ආදී කරුණු එකතුවීමෙන් සිදුවන කඨින පිංකම දුර්ලභ පිංකමක්‌ ලෙසින් සැලකේ. මෙම පිංකමේ ආනිසංස කල්ප තිහක්‌ අපාගත නොවී සිටීමට හේතුවේ. එමෙන්ම කඨින දානමය පිංකම අට මහා කුසල් අතර ප්‍රධාන වේ.

Significances of Vap Full Poya Day

Vap Full Moon Poya Day marks the end of the Annual Three Months Rainy Retreat and the beginning of Kathina Cheevara Month. The rainy season commenced three months ago with Esala (July) Full Moon Poya Day – ‘Vassana Kalo’ This is the Rainy Retreat Season.!. It comes to an end with the Vap (October) Full Moon Poya. The ‘Katina’ season ushers in the Buddhist calendar with Vap Poya, which is popularly known as ‘Cheevara Masaya.
It was on Vap Full Moon Poya Day, our Lord Buddha visited the heavenly abode of Tavatimsa and preached Abidhamma (Higher Teachings) to Devas (beings of celestial plane) and Matru Deva (Mother Deity) and made her attain Sotapanna (Stream enter).
It was on Vap Full Moon Poya Day, The Future Buddha, Maitriya Bodhisatva entered the order with a retinue of 500 followers.
It was on Vap Full Moon Poya Day that paved the way for the arrival of Bhikkhuni Sangamitta Arahat Theri to come to Sri Lanka and establish nuns order by giving the opportunity to Queen Anula, the sister-in-law of King Devanampiyatissa and many other Sri Lankan women. It was on Vap Full Moon Poya Day King Devanampiyatissa sent one of his close relative Minister Maha Aritta to India to make the invitation for the arrival of Bhikkhuni Sangamitta Arahat Theri.
It was on Vap Full Moon Poya Day first Sri Lankan person Minister Aritta became a monk to establish Buddhism firmly rooted in the land of Sri Lanka.
Let us practice five or higher precepts, meditation and listen to Dhamma to gain the benefits of this holy day.

Please encourage your children make a short presentation (1-2 minutes) about Vap Full Moon Poya Day. They can learn it by heart and recite or explain the purpose or meaning in it.
