'Pure Ceylon Tea' received with enthusiasm at International Food and Drink Event (IFE), London
The International Food and Drink Event (IFE), a premier food and drink trade exhibition was held at ExCel, London from 21-23 March 2022. The High Commission of Sri Lanka in London facilitated the participation of Sri Lanka Tea Board in the exhibition where ‘Pure Ceylon Tea’ was received with enthusiasm by international buyers and visitors.
The High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to the United Kingdom Saroja Sirisena inaugurated the Sri Lanka Tea Board pavilion together with the Director (Promotions) of the Sri Lanka Tea Board Pavithri Peiris, High Commission officials and other invited guests from the UK tea trade and the media.
Ceylon tea from the Seven regions of Sri Lanka was served and Ceylon tea sample sachets were distributed among visitors at the pavilion. An interactive tea tasting quiz was conducted to encourage the visitor engagement. Ceylon Tea Land Pvt Ltd and the Ceylon Artisanal Tea Association also exhibited the artisanal tea collections at Sri Lanka Tea Board pavilion.
The IFE has been held for over 40 years in the UK and IFE 2022 is the first major UK event to take place since the pandemic with over 30,000 buyers and visitors from the UK and many other countries around the world.
Sri Lanka is well known as the “Tea Island” which could cater to the satisfaction of any tea connoisseur in the world. Sri Lanka is the third largest tea exporter to the world and the export share in the global tea market is registered at around 15%. Sri Lanka is undisputedly the leading player in the orthodox black tea industry. Sri Lanka exports approximately USD 9 Million worth of tea to the UK.
