The Sri Lanka Leukaemia Foundation (UK) gifted a portable Sonascope to the value of £ 11,400 to the Apeksha National Cancer Hospital at Maharagama for the use of its Bone Marrow Transplant Unit (BMTU). The presentation ceremony took place recently at the Hospital premises in the presence of Dr Prasad Abeysinghe, Consultant Oncologist, BMTU , Dr Nishan Siriwardena Senior Medical Officer, Ms Nadeesha Harshani, Representative of the agents in SriLanka for the Sonascope . The presentation was carried out by Mr John Kern of the SLLF (UK) who was holidaying in SriLanka during that time.
Speaking at the event, Dr Abeysinghe thanked the SLLF for the generous gift which would be very useful in their work at the BMT Unit of the hospital.
Ms Harshani presented a demonstration of the functioning of the Sonascope.
With the latest presentation of this equipment the SLLF (UK) is proud to announce that it has donated equipment and facilities to the Apeksha Hospital to the value in excess of £ 60,000 during the last 12 years of its existence.
